Regarding Jazz, I think it makes most sense to consider jazz to be the American continuation of classical music. (Considering how a lot of the jazz standards were written by European émigrées to America) People often joke about others not liking jazz because it’s formless and they don’t understand it, but the formless jazz is really only seen in the later Post-Modern instantiations of it beginning in maybe the 60’s. The beginnings of jazz, and perhaps the purest forms of jazz, have immense amounts of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic structure.
