Programming Mantras

I'm reading through some articles and finding a bunch of notes and goals written on different software projects. I will add some of these goals as mantras that may be helpful to the reader looking to improve their code. These are not all direct quotes. I have edited them for applicability ideal mantra-nization.

1. Remember the user and make it simple to configure and use.

2. The tool must have a feedback mechanism so the user knows when it starts working and stops.

3. Survey extant software for design ideas and that might serve as a foundation. Select one project from the survey and configure and/or modify it to make it suitable for present use.

4. On that note, the developer must have a good understanding of normal operation of comparable tools.

I'd be curious to hear if you guys have any lists of ideas that help you structure your coding projects.

I must not use Java.
Java is the mind killer.
Java is the nuclear death that brings obliteration to C codebases.
I will face Java usage.
I will permit the enterprise bloat to pass over me and through me.
And When it has passed, I will learn to appreciate manual memory management and borrow checking.
Where Java has gone there will be nothing, only sensible programming will remain.
