In this thread, post the best live-action cinematic world builds there are.
I’ll start with a couple examples:
Apocalypto (2006)
Visceral look into pre-Imperial Mayan life in what I presume to be Mexico. From the costumes and make-up (which is mostly paint), to the fight scenes it’s hard to not believe that’s exactly how life was.
Phantom Thread (2017)
You watch this movie and think you’re in Mid-Century London. It’s such a nearly perfect movie idk what else to say. Only aided by Paul Thomas Andersons attention to shooting standards. The analog film and soft-lighting just exudes 50’s.
An example that wouldn’t fit, would be anything like Doctor Who. Where they do have a bunch of period episodes and scenes, it’s all quite singularly steampunk with 90’s TV aesthetics.
